Before You Sign Up For ByteBooth:

1. What is Free Web Hosting?

ByteBooth provides website hosting services completely FREE of charge!  In order to pay our bills we will place small advertisements in the header and footer of your website.  Don’t Worry - they are clean, easily distinguishable from your website, and relevant to the content of your website category.  This allows us to provide continuous top-notch service to you absolutely FREE!

Absolutely!  ByteBooth.com can be used for business or personal reasons.  Explore our different categories - we encourage all of our users to build as many websites as possible, create link exchanges with other ByteBooth members, and market their websites in search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

3. Do you allow your users to sell advertising on their website’s pages?

You can sell advertising and use ByteBooth to generate revenue in any way possible, provided it falls within our Terms of Service.

4. Do you support Microsoft Frontpage?

Unfortunately we don’t support Microsoft Frontpage extensions, but we can support HTML generated by any website generation tool like Frontpage, Dreamweaver, and others.

We do not support these scripts yet, but we plan to do so soon.

Already A ByteBooth User?

1. What is my website’s url?

Your Website’s URL is [your username].ByteBooth.com.

2. How do I get my files to show up on my website?

Your files should show up on your website as soon as you upload them.  Sometimes there is a slight delay because your local DNS has to update itself.  This used to take a long time, but these days it should happen every few minutes.  If you still can’t get your website to resolve or your changes to show up, you should contact your internet service provider and ask them to update their DNS cache.

3. When I go to my website’s url my page isn’t there?

Please see above.  It’s likely that your local DNS has not been updated yet.

4. What is the FTP information I need to upload my site?

When you registered for your account you should have received a welcome email which included your FTP information.  If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check your junk email folder.

General FTP Information:
address: ftp.[your username].bytebooth.com (port 21)
username: Your username
password: Your password
5. What is hotlinking and why is it discouraged?

Hotlinking is when you post a link to an image that you host on one your ByteBooth website. It is discouraged because it makes a call to that image from our server and slows down the experience for other users on your website.

6. I’m building a gallery of my photos, any suggestions?

Adobe Photoshop has a built in gallery generation tool that is fantastic.  There are tons of other options out there too.

7. I uploaded Index.html and I can’t see it!

Please see the note above about waiting for your local DNS to update.
